On Sunday we were driving down the hill from the nasty 6 way intersection to see black smoke billowing out of Hershey. As we got closer, the smoke seemed to be coming from where we live. I joked a bit saying that with our luck it would probably be our place. (I was in a sarcastic mood on Sunday.) When we pulled onto the road that we lived on, it became apparent that it was quite close to where we lived with fire trucks, ambulances, police, and volunteer firefighters all racing past us. We couldn't even pull into our parking lot because it was so close. Anyway the fire gutted four apartments, and seriously damaged four others. Some friends in our ward lived in the building adjacent to this one and narrowly escaped disaster. Fortunately nobody got hurt. The Darwin award this year goes to: stupid kids throwing cigarette butts into a plastic pumpkin. Plastic is clearly not flammable.
See the Eric and Jana Nielson blog if you want to see some close ups.
