Utah Trip: Part I

Wes had the first week of October off of work, and we were able to find an amazing price on plane tickets out of Harrisburg to Salt Lake, so we jumped on the opportunity to go and visit home.  Wes hadn't been in a year, and it had been more than six months since the kids and I were there, so it was definitely nice to go and see a bunch of family.  The kids and I stayed another 10 days after Wes had to go back to work, but we had so much fun the week we were there with Wes.  I love fall in Utah, and we hit it at a perfect time.  The leaves were at their peak of changing color in the mountains, so we went up a couple of times.  It was so pretty, and Charlie and Reese loved seeing all the colors.  We had lunch at Silver Fork Lodge the day we flew in, and then one morning, we walked around Silver Lake.  Wes and his parents took Charlie up to Camp Roger for a day, and they had so much fun hiking, throwing rocks in the water, and riding the Mule.  We also went up to see Chris and Mariah to get our teeth cleaned and grab lunch. We missed seeing Cooper, but luckily saw him that weekend.  On Thursday, we went to the zoo and saw the new polar bear and seal exhibit.  That was really fun.  Charlie loved the polar bear, and Reese liked the seals.  There was also a baby giraffe that was super cute to see.  On Friday, we went to lunch with Uncle Bruce and went to feed the ducks - that's always fun and we attracted quite the gaggle of ducks and geese.  We also were able to celebrate Schuyler's 15th birthday with a yummy dinner and family.

Wes and I each had the special opportunity to visit a session of General Conference.  I went Saturday morning with my mom, and we were there when they announced the change in age for missionaries.  Wow, what a moment.  Tears immediately sprung to my eyes when I realized what we had just heard.  How exciting that more young men and young women will be able to realize the opportunity of a mission.  It was fun to be there and share that with my mom.  Wes was able to go to the Priesthood session that night with his dad, my dad, and Chris.  It was the first time any of us had ever been to General  Conference, and it was a really neat thing to do.  The Conference Center is amazing, and so many people can fit in that building and hear our prophet and leaders beat witness of our Savior within their talks.

Wes had to go home on Sunday.  We didn't like saying goodbye for the next 10 days.  But I'm glad we were able to have a fun week together and see a bunch of family that we love and miss.
