Mount Vernon

Jeanne flew into town last week, and we're having so much fun.  Since it was Labor Day Weekend and Chris had Monday off, he drove in to spend the long weekend.  It was great to see him after so long.  On Saturday, we drove down to Alexandria, VA to go to Mount Vernon. It was a long drive, but we stopped at Café Rio, which is always a big highlight for us.  Mount Vernon is a great place.  They've done some renovating since I was there last, and they have a new welcome center and museum.  It was the first time Wes, Jeanne, and Chris had been there. We got separated from Chris and Jeanne, but I think they had fun and got to see everything.  Wes's favorite part was the tomb for Washington and his wife.  It is pretty neat to realize that the remnants of our first president are at that site.  It was a fun thing to do.  Reese liked seeing the sheep and Charlie liked the beds in Washington's home.  On our way back home, we stopped by Gravely Point to watch the airplanes land at Reagan National.  Charlie thought it was great and we saw six planes land in under 10 minutes.  Not a bad way to spend a day.
